Changes in the world’s recycling market have increased the cost of recycling and have made certain recyclables very difficult to market. Because of these market conditions the Town’s recyclables collection contractor has informed the Town Council that new collection costs will be passed on to the Town.
At its meeting on February 12, 2019, the Town Council will consider whether it should amend the list of recyclables that are collected as a part of the Town’s curbside collection program. Specifically, the Council will discuss whether to eliminate glass and some plastics from the curbside collection program. Such a change would reduce the new collections costs that will be borne by the Town.
Prior to this discussion, the Council will provide an opportunity for the public to speak to this matter.
Anyone who wants address the Town Council on this matter should attend the February 12, 2019 Town Council meeting. The meeting, which is held in the Main Meeting Room of the Berryville-Clarke County Government Center, will begin at 7:30 pm.
