Winter Storm Notice Regarding Downtown Parking Restrictions

News Flash Posted on January 22, 2026

Winter Storm-Related Downtown Parking Restrictions

It is expected that our area will receive measurable snow within the next few days. The following parking restrictions will become effective at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026 and expire at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 (or earlier if possible). Parking will be restricted on the south side of Main Street between the intersection of West Main and Buckmarsh Streets and the intersection of East Main Street and Chalmers Court. The area in question is highlighted on the attached map PDF. Parking on the north side of Main Street in this area will remain unrestricted.

This parking restriction will be placed in effect to permit Public Works crews to better remove snow from the area in question during the event. This will provide the traveling public with a wider travel way during and immediately after the storm. This work will also have the added benefit of providing clear on-street parking on the south side of Main Street immediately after the storm.

As property owners and business owners are clearing the sidewalks along their frontage the Town recognizes that it will be difficult to manage the snow that has been pushed up along the curb. It is expected that snow removed from the sidewalk will be piled along the curb (on the sidewalk- not in the street). We request that property owners and business owners dig pathways from the cleared sidewalk to the street at each occupancy.

Snow Removal Operations in the Downtown Area

If our area receives a significant amount of snow and temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for several days after the storm, then the Town will remove snow from the downtown area. It is expected that the snow removal operation will occur within 48 hours of the cessation of snow plowing operations, though the timing of the operation will be dictated by many factors.

During such operations, Town crews and contractors will remove accumulated snow from sidewalks and on-street parking areas.

Until that operation occurs, downtown property owners and businesses are required to meet sidewalk snow removal requirements. Snow may be placed on the sidewalk along the curb, but not in the street. Paths should be cut to the street at every occupancy.

The Town’s efforts to remove snow from downtown sidewalks does not relieve property owners of their responsibilities to clear sidewalks.
