Notice Regarding New Concrete

Concrete is a sturdy and enduring surface, making it well suited for sidewalks and driveways. However, concrete has a “curing” period of approximately a year. During this time, it is highly susceptible to damage from chemical applications, especially deicers. Treating with salt and other deicers can lead to chips and cracks, discoloration, and surface weakening. Damage resulting from the application of deicers is not generally eligible for warranty repair/replacement.

Please avoid the use of salt and other deicers on new concrete for approximately one year. Alternatives that pose less of a damage risk to the concrete include sand, sawdust, clean kitty litter, and birdseed. While these do not melt the ice, they improve traction. Caution should always be used when traversing icy surfaces, regardless of the product used.
