Appliance and Bulk Item Collection Change – Effective 5/1/2024

To schedule appliance and bulk item collection, please call Republic Services directly at 1.800.234.2104 before 3:00 p.m. on the Monday prior to a Wednesday collection and provide the following information:

  • address of property at which collection is to occur,
  • number and type of bulk items to be collected, and
  • payment method (credit card).

Republic Services, the Town’s refuse collection contractor, will collect appliances and bulk items such as mattresses, box springs, furniture, and other objects that will not fit into the provided refuse toter.

The cost of such appliance and bulk collections must be paid by the resident. The appliance collection fee is $50.00 per item. The bulk collection fee is $30.00 per item. These fees are subject to change. Such collections are scheduled for Wednesdays, but may be delayed by inclement weather or mechanical breakdown.

Residents may also take bulk items to the Frederick County Landfill. Information concerning materials that are accepted at the landfill can be obtained at 540.665.5658 and https://www.fcva.us/departments/public-works/landfill-and-solid-waste.

Sec. 13-31. - Discarding or abandoning iceboxes, etc.; precautions required. 

It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to discard, abandon, leave or allow to remain in any place any icebox, refrigerator or other container, device or equipment of any kind with an interior storage area of more than two (2) cubic feet of clear space which is airtight, without first removing the door or doors or hinges from such icebox, refrigerator, container, device or equipment. 

This section shall not apply to any icebox, refrigerator, container, device or equipment which is being used for the purpose for which it was originally designed, or is being used for display purposes by any retail or wholesale merchant, or is crated, strapped or locked to such an extent that it is impossible for a child to obtain access to any airtight compartment. 

Any violation of the provisions of this section shall be punishable as a Class 3 misdemeanor. 

 

Unlawful Accumulations of Refuse in Town

Sec. 8-2. - Unlawful accumulations.

(a) It shall be unlawful for any owner or occupant of any property within the town to allow garbage, refuse, trash, litter or other substances which might endanger the health of other residents of the town to accumulate on such property.

(b) The owner of any property in the town shall remove accumulations referred to in subsection (a) above from such property as prescribed by the town manager or designee in accordance with requirements of this section. Reasonable notice of the date fixed by the town manager or designee for such removal shall be given by, mail or delivery of a written notice to each owner of property.

(c) Upon the failure of the owner of property to remove trash, garbage, refuse, litter and other substances which might endanger the health of other residents of the town, as provided in the notice given pursuant to subsection (b) above, the town manager or designee may have such trash, garbage, refuse, litter and other substances removed and bill the owner for the work. Upon the owner's failure to pay such bill by tax billing time, such bill shall be placed upon the tax bill of the owner so delinquent and collected as taxes are collected.

     Any violation of the provisions of this section shall be punishable as a Class 4 misdemeanor.
