On October 4, a coyote was seen near Tyson Drive in the southwest portion of Town.
It is common for wild animals to appear in Berryville’s neighborhoods. Deer, raccoons, skunks, foxes, bear, snakes, and other animals call Berryville and its surrounding territory, home. As coyotes expand their range in the eastern United States we are certain to see more of them in the Berryville area.
It is important that all residents take steps make their property, and Berryville in general, less attractive to certain wildlife. Please follow these steps at home to reduce potentially disruptive wildlife interactions:
- Secure all trash
- Secure all pet food
- Compost only in secure containers
- Collect and dispose of fruit that has fallen from trees
- Clean barbeque grills thoroughly after each use and dispose of grease in a secured container
- Do not provide food and water for birds and other wildlife (bear are attracted to bird feeders and bird feeder waste attracts small rodents which are natural prey of foxes, coyotes, and snakes)
If a wild animal is acting aggressively toward you, another person, or a pet, then please call 911 and request law enforcement assistance.
