TOWN OF BERRYVILLE
NOTICE
2/14/19
Effective March 2, 2019, the Town of Berryville will no longer accept glass as a part of its curbside recycling collection program.
Tectonic shifts in the global recyclables market are forcing localities across the United States to evaluate and alter their recycling programs. The Town of Berryville is attempting to address these conditions while still maintaining a curbside recycling program.
The future of the program is not certain and will have to be evaluated again when the Town renews its refuse and recyclables collection contract. Given that the market for glass has collapsed and that glass constitutes approximately 75% of our recycling stream by weight; it was determined that it would be prudent to remove glass from the collection program as a logical and practical step to stabilize costs.
The last recyclables collections in which glass will be accepted will occur on February 28, 2019 and March 1, 2019.
After those collections, all glass must be placed in refuse toters. After those collections, no glass may be placed in recycling bins.
The Town will continue to evaluate the refuse and recyclables collection program in order to provide this important service in as cost-effective manner as possible.
The reverse side of this notice provides information about the Town’s recyclables collection service. If you have questions about the program, then please contact the Town Business Office at 540.955.1099 or customerservice@berryvilleva.gov.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation in this matter.
