Berryville, Virginia’s Election Ward Boundaries to be Changed

The boundaries of three of Berryville, Virginia’s four election wards must be changed to effect an even distribution of population within the wards. The Town Council will use the results of the 2020 U.S. Census to adjust the ward boundaries and achieve a deviation of no more than plus or minus 5 percent of population within any ward.

In accordance with the current proposal, Ward Two will be reduced in size and have its population reduced by 209 people. Ward One will be enlarged and have its population increased by 104 people. Ward Three will be enlarged and have its population increased by 105 people. The proposal does not include any change to the boundaries of Ward Four.

The Berryville Town Council will conduct a public hearing on this matter on March 8, 2022. The public hearing, which will begin at 7:00 p.m., or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard, will be held in the Main Meeting Room of the Berryville-Clarke County Government Center, which is located at 101 Chalmers Court, Berryville, VA. In addition to comments provided in person at the public hearing, the Council will also accept public comment on this matter through March 11, 2022 by email (publiccomment@berryville.va.gov), standard mail (Town of Berryville, 101 Chalmers Court, Berryville, VA 22611), faxed to 540.955.4524, or delivered to the Town’s Business Office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (holidays excluded).

It is expected that the Council will approve new ward boundaries on March 14, 2022 at a meeting scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m., and that the approved changes will become effective on April 13, 2022.
