Councilmember Donna Marie McDonald Resigns from Berryville Town Council
The Town of Berryville has announced the resignation for health reasons of Town Council member Donna Marie McDonald, effective October 26.
McDonald has represented Ward 1 since being elected in 2016, having been reelected in 2020.
“It is clear to me that I will not be able to carry out my duties to my satisfaction,” McDonald said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed serving on the Town Council for the past six years. The members are fortunate to have the honor of serving such a wonderful community.”
Mayor Jay Arnold said the search for a replacement would begin immediately and that the vacancy would be filled by December 8, 2022.
“This is a difficult time for everyone concerned,” Arnold said. “Our first concern is for Mrs. McDonald’s wellbeing, but of course we have the challenging task of replacing a dedicated public servant who has contributed so much to the Council as a whole and also in chairing our Public Safety Committee, which has oversight of the police department.”
Town Manager Keith Dalton said that any qualified voters from Ward 1 who would like to be considered for appointment to the Town Council must submit a letter of interest, completed Town of Berryville Talent Bank Form, and resume to the Town Clerk by November 18, 2022. Mr. Dalton said the Town would provide additional details of the replacement process and timetable as soon as the Council has discussed the matter at its November 8, 2022 regular meeting.
